This tour offers an engaging experience where you'll connect with the challenges faced by the local communities from across the political divide.

Peace Wall and Gates

The Peace Wall, a significant landmark in Belfast, stands as a powerful symbol of the city's history of conflict and the ongoing efforts towards peace and reconciliation. These towering walls, initially erected to separate conflicting neighbourhoods, are painted with murals and graffiti. Visitors can leave their messages of hope and peace on the main peace wall, contributing to a living testament to Belfast's history.

James Connolly Centre

Named after the famous Irish socialist and nationalist leader, the James Connolly Centre is a hub of cultural and political education. It offers a deep insight into the life and legacy of Connolly, with exhibitions and artworks dedicated to his role in Ireland's struggle for independence. This centre is not just a historical site; it's a vibrant community space, echoing Connolly's vision of social justice and equality.

Republican Plot Milltown

Located within Milltown Cemetery, the Republican Plot is a sombre yet significant site. It serves as the final resting place for many members of the Irish Republican Army (IRA), including those who played pivotal roles in the Troubles. The plot is often visited by those looking to pay respects and reflect on the complex and turbulent history of the region.

*Not Suitable for Coaches, although if time was on our side on a nice day we could walk into the plot.

Ballymurphy

Ballymurphy is an area with profound historical significance, particularly known for the tragic events of the Ballymurphy Massacre in 1971, where 11 unarmed civilians were murdered over a three-day period by British Soldiers “Para 1” and dozens were wounded as they went about their daily routine. The neighbourhood features murals and memorials that pay tribute to the victims and highlight the community's resilience and quest for justice.

Belfast Political Murals

Belfast's political murals are not merely artworks. They are vibrant chronicles of the city's tumultuous history. The tour pauses at noteworthy spots to delve into the stories behind these compelling murals.

From depictions of key historical figures and events to symbols of peace and current conflicts, the tour provides context, explaining the significance of each mural in relation to the city's past and present political climate.
